It’s another wonderful time on The Gospel Exposition Blog. Is this the first time you are coming across the word schizophrenic? Well, it is from the word schizophrenia. The word schizophrenia simply means “the coexistence of contradictory or antagonistic qualities or attitudes – where disparate or exclusive conditions coexist.”
Today, we want to see how Christians have schizophrenia as regards the nature, attitudes and works of God, hence the phrase SCHIZOPHRENIC CHRISTIANITY. Have you ever heard people say God brought a particular ill condition on them so as to teach them a lesson? I know someone reading this is saying isn’t that possible? Afterall, something similar had happened to me and I felt and thought the same way. This erroneous belief is borne out of ignorance of Whom God really is. In fact, many ministers who are supposed to bring people to the place of rest in Christ also plant this ignorance in the hearts of their followers. You hear things like, your business crumbled because you refused to pay your tithes and offerings judiciously. The unrest in your marriage or your children behaving unseemly in the society is as a result of God’s punishment for your past actions. These and many more examples that you can think of are not from God, at all. They are all big lies against God.
1 John 1:5 “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
I would like you to take note of the last part of the text. It says, God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. This is the message of Christ to humanity. Notice that John said this is the message we have heard from Him (Christ) and declare to you – yes, you. Any message contrary to this is error. In other words, any message that paints God as sometimes good and sometimes evil is not based on the revelation of God to humanity. It is a schizophrenic message which can only produce schizophrenic christians and not the ones with the precise and accurate knowledge of God’s nature.
Who is this revelation of God to humanity? It is Christ Jesus Himself.
“Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”
Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. It is in Christ we see God who cannot be seen. God is revealed in Christ. He is the one that has come to show us who the Father really is. He revealed the Father through His life on earth. Throughout His earthly walk, He did good and no evil. He never even condemned those that were due for condemnation according to the law of Moses. He went about doing good and healing those that were oppressed. That is the nature of God. Christ revealed Him.
But someone wants to ask about the occurrences in the Old Testament. Before I go into this, let me frankly state to you that the cross made the difference. The sooner christians catch this reality, the better for the body of Christ. The bible made us to understand that the supernatural acts of destruction in the Old Testament were done by angels and not God. Some of these were done by Satan and some by choices of the people involved. Carefully read the passages below for more understanding of this.
“Hebrews 2:2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward.”
“John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
From the above, we see that destruction may come for choosing to obey and follow the devil. The devil is the murderer, dear friends, please note this. Read also the book of Romans chapter 1, particularly, beginning from the eigtheenth verse. We see how man left God and totally pursue his fleshly desires. That was choice. It was a refusal of the truth. The denial of knowledge.
From the truth of the scriptures, we can clearly see that God is good all the time. He has never done something evil or bad, not even once. When He created the heavens and the earth, the bible says He saw them and they were good. My friend, it is time you knew that God is good and delights not in evil. Evil is not His nature.
“James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
There’s no variation in and with God. He is all good. Everything that comes from Him is good. Everything He does is good. Everything He created was good. No imperfections in Him. He is neither evil nor schizophrenic, He is good at all times. Let no man think or say he’s been tempted with evil punishment by God. God would not do that. I do not mean that God cannot test your faith. He can. But get this right, God will not test your faith by killing your wife or children, or by inflicting them with deadly diseases, or by making you lose your job while there is no provision for another one and hence living in abject poverty. Never!
I have come to understand that this lie about God brings confusion. As a way of illustration, if I bring out a white book and present it to you as black, I am sure you’d question that because you are confused about the colour. The confusion gets bigger when I tell you the colour could be white or black depending on how you see it because you are sure of what is presented to you – a white book. You’d imagine how white and black could coexist and get manifested as a colour. That’s how it is when believers think God is good sometimes and wicked or evil another time. That is confusion. But, God isn’t author of confusion, He is light in whom there is no darkness.
Beloved, it is time to stop blaming God for life’s misfortunes. Don’t let the devil trick you to think that God is angry at you. He knows well that when he succeeds at this, you would lose your confidence to approach Him (God). He even makes some believers think God is very mad at them and that is the reason why evil never ceases to occur in their lives. What a trick! It is unfortunate that believers yield to this lie of the devil. But I bring you good news today. God loves you. He is not responsible for any evil you encounter or see around. Come to God. Run for your dear live and tell the devil to get lost. Be steadfast in prayer and study of God’s word. God will give you the victory. Hallelujah.
