Welcome to another episode on the Gospel Exposition Blog. I pray you understand the intent of God’s heart in today’s post. God bless you.
(P.S: Carefully read every quoted scriptures diligently.)
Salvation is a gift. A totally free gift without any attachments. Someone once said “Some things are free because someone has paid for it”. Christ paid for the salvation of all. He gave His life for us, so that we can have eternal life.
Rick Warren once gave an interesting analogy that, “If you were to ask 100 people on the sidewalk, “How do you get to Heaven?” you’d get a lot of different answers that could be summarized by the idea that you have to earn your way to Heaven. You’d hear things like, “Try to be good and do your best” or “Work really hard at being a moral person” or “Do more good things in life than you do bad things”. All of these ideas are based on works, not grace.”
If you are thinking you have to do something or give money and cars before you can be saved. You are wrong. You cannot earn salvation as a reward, you cannot buy it, you cannot lobby for it, neither can you work for it.
The Bible speaking about Jesus in John 19:30 (KJV) says “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
Note the words in emphasis. IT IS FINISHED. Christ didn’t say “I AM FINISHED” because he is still alive till today. What Jesus was saying was that he has finished your work of salvation. You do not have to do anything else to earn the free gift he gave his life for.
Salvation is totally free. And it is free because Christ has paid for it in full. The Bible says in
Ephesians 2:8 (KJV), “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
It also says in
“Romans 3:24 (NCV) – All need to be made right with God by his grace, which is a free gift. They need to be made free from sin through Jesus Christ”
You have to also understand that grace is the activator of salvation. Salvation is what we receive out the abundant grace of God. Out of God’s unmerited favor, out of the riches of his grace and kindness (Eph 2:7-9), he has pitied us as a Father pities his child. And out of his infinite mercies, has provided a way out from the power of sin. And this salvation is free, it is by grace, not by your works. More importantly though, we have to accept that salvation offered to us.
“Titus 2:11 (KJV) For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,”
It is a different thing for you to offer someone a gift and for him to accept it. The person might decide he doesn’t need the gift you’re offering. He may storm out of your presence while you’re there, offering the gift of your kindness. The same applies to salvation. It is a gift Christ is presenting to everyone in the world (to all men – Titus 2:11), but only those who accept and embrace this gift will be saved. God won’t force anyone into receiving His free gift, he won’t push you to doing what you don’t want to do and he won’t force you into accepting His free gift. He has given us the free will to choose between life and death, between eternity and destruction. To choose life, you just have to believe in the name of Jesus.
“Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
What you need to do is in the scriptures above. Confess Jesus as your Lord believe that God raised him from the dead.
If you are ready to receive Him into your heart, say this Prayer with faith: Father, I am sorry for all my sins. I know I can’t help myself. I come to you for help. I open the door of heart for Jesus to enter. I believe that you raised Jesus from the dead. And I want Jesus to be the Savior and Lord of my heart. Thank you Jesus. Amen
