Welcome to another episode on The Gospel Exposition Blog. Today, we are going to be answering few questions on prayer. Why do we pray? When do we pray? Where do we pray? How do we pray? I pray that your understanding is quickened and deepened in Jesus’ name.
Why do we pray?
This is a very important question every believer should have the right answer to. Prayer is a platform of communication and fellowship in the spirit, and so we pray always because we are of the spirit. Many are of the opinion and practice of praying only when they have challenges and difficulties or when things are going on pretty well. None of these conditions should be our (believers) source of motivation for prayer. The only motivation is your spiritual reality.
Let’s carefully check Jesus’ statement in Matthew 21.
“And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer…”
And you are God’s house – His temple, His building.
“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone,
in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”
Your spiritual reality is the motivation for prayer. You are God’s house. You are God’s building.
When do we pray?
A believer prays all the time, without ceasing, prompting, persuasion or motivation. A believer prays every time.
“18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints”
3 We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
A believer should develop a good life of prayer which does not depend on time. Prayer should be without season and without ceasing.
Where do we pray?
“1 Tim2:8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;”
A believer prays everywhere. There is no such place that God cannot hear or answer the believer’s prayer. The problem most times comes from praying amiss. Just have a picture of any place in your mind, you can pray there.
How do we pray?
This is an aspect I would want to shed more light on. How do we pray right, how do we pray well?
“1 Tim 2:8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;”
You pray well when you lift up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
We will dwell more on the 1 Tim 2:8 above in the next article. Do ensure that you visit this blog for more awesome posts.
