Welcome to another episode on The Gospel Exposition Blog. Today, we want to tell of how our gracious God dealt with the fallen human race by restoring them back to the state they ought to be – how he saved and restored mankind.
Romans 5 (NIV)
12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned–
13 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
16 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.
19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20 The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The whole world came under the condemnation of God because of one man’s sin. Adam’s disobedience resulted in the human race being born under condemnation. Sin became the cause of man’s condemnation and the Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. As time passed, it was necessary for God to cover man’s sin with the blood-soaked fleece of a lamb, for in His heart God purposed to send a Saviour Who could pay the price of sin. His perfect Life would be a payment for the sinful lives of the entire human race. All sin that was covered by the fleece of a lamb would be atoned for by His blood.
Until the blood of the perfect Sacrifice was offered, man’s sin remained covered – covered but never forgiven until the final Sacrifice for all sin was offered. Hebrews 10. At the fullness of time, He (God) was generously gracious to give His Son as a ransom for many.
Christ came bringing grace with Him and truth for all condemned by the Law. His perfect Life and sacrificial death was to break the power of sin resting on man. His death on the cross was so that man could be released from all condemnation.
The Law condemned all, for none could keep the righteous requirements of the Law. Yet, grace set aside God’s Law to break the power of condemnation on all men. The only way to break the power of condemnation was the death of Christ for the sin of the world and the only way to be free from condemnation is to believe in Jesus Christ. The only requirement for man is to believe that Christ died for his sins.
There’s no condemnation for those that are part of Jesus’ body. God’s whole wrath on sin was absorbed by Christ when He laid down His life. This was so because man could not stand the judgement and condemnation, therefore, it was necessary for God to manifest as (become) Man so as to redeem helpless mankind.
To be free from the Law of condemnation and death, one has to embrace the Law of the spirit of life which is by Christ Jesus. That is why God gave His only Son so that all can have life in Him (the Son). John 3:16. As many will accept Him, will have life and be free from condemnation. But, those who reject Him make God a liar – rejecting His predetermined plan for man’s redemption.
John 3 (NIV)
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
Beloved, have you heard and believed the gospel of Christ? Rejoice! For you are part of Jesus’ body. Dear reader, if you have not received the precious life that Christ gives, if you are not yet born of the Word and Spirit, this is the right time to do so. Be ready to accept Him as your Lord and Saviour even as you say this prayer with the whole of your heart.
“God of heaven, I give you all the praise for your grace that you have extended unto me. I thank you for the gift of your Son. I believe that Christ came and died for my sins. Today, I accept His life and receive the grace to abide in Him. I am a new creation in Him. Thank you Lord for this grace. I am free in Christ from condemnation and death. Hallelujah!”
Did you say that prayer well? Then, you have been saved. Do well to join a believers’ fellowship in your environment where the truth of God’s word is taught and grow.
We trust that you have been blessed by this post. Please, share with friends and family. God bless you.
