Ephesians 4, 5 and Galatians 5.
There are two things we need to know as believers. There are two principles we have to acquaint ourselves with. When we know these things, we would know how to behave in or as the church, which is the pillar and ground of the truth.
Salvation is the gift of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. It is the gift of eternal life. At redemption, Christ offers his life and we are saved by receiving his life. This life quickens us, that is, it raises us to the standard of God. The life that Christ gave recreates. It makes a new man out of the old man. So, the new man is created after God in righteousness and true holiness. Eph. 4:24. This enables us to live the life of the Saviour. The grace of God that brought us salvation also teaches us to deny all ungodliness. At salvation, we receive the life of Christ and after salvation we give our lives to Christ in submission to use it as he pleases. In other words, we let go our own ways of life to walk in the newness of life of Christ.
Then, we can safely say that there are two truths. Salvation by faith in Christ (Trust) and willingness to yield to godliness (Obey). The two are very important. When we trust we must also obey. This is the will of God for us. As believers, we should understand that we’ve been brought out of a kingdom. We were purchased by the blood of Christ from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Every kingdom has its ruling authority, and so we were ruled by darkness when we were still in that kingdom. We yielded to the authority of the kingdom. Also, it is expected that we obey the authority of our new kingdom. This new kingdom is a godly kingdom and those that trust and have faith in the God of the kingdom must obey the authority of the kingdom. This is how spiritual maturity is measured by God. How well you obey God, his word and the authority he has placed over you is a measure of your growth in grace. The grace of God teaches us. The grace of God supplies strength to live like God. But man has a will. You have to be willing unto obedience.
How well you obey God, his word and the authority he has placed over you is a measure of your growth in grace.
In obedience, you walk in love. Love encompasses all things. Love the Lord your God and do not what is wrong in his sight. Your love for God will make you serve him reverently and in holiness. Also, love your neighbour as yourself. I don’t think any man in his right sense will ever hurt himself. Love works no ill to another. Love brings about good conduct in church and also among brethren. Love does not condone or support sin because you would not agree to sin with someone when you really understand love. 1 Cor. 13.
We should come to know that we are saved, not unto ourselves but unto God. Therefore, we should manifest the fruits of salvation. We should be transformed daily into his image. This can only be possible by being obedient to his instructions. Do not be a believer only by faith, be a believer in deed. Trust in God and obey his commandments.
