If you are to dedicate your life to something, if you’re going to base your whole existence on a particular thing, it is only logical that you choose something solid, something that will stand the test of time. It is sad to see that many people in the world today are building on a sandy foundation, some are even building their lives on wood and clay.

It would be very sad to think you are walking on a path that leads to God only to find out too late that it doesn’t. Those who have any hope for eternity must build on the only sure foundation, the only perfect foundation which is Jesus Christ Himself.

“1 Corinthians 3:11 (NIV) – For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

There is no other sure foundation that any man, angel or being can lay except that which God has laid which is Jesus Christ the Saviour.

Many people in the world today, even some who profess to be Christians build their whole life on their outward profession of religion. They neglect Christ and focus on religion. They never miss Sunday school, they are consistent in Bible studies and prayer meetings, they don’t ever fail to give tithes and offerings but they have not surrendered their lives to Christ. They have not allowed Jesus to be their only foundation. They are building on the weak hope of religion. Religion doesn’t save anybody, only Christ saves. Only Christ can deliver you from sin and the devil. It is only when you believe in Jesus that your church duties and religious activities has any chance of being accepted as a sacrifice of your devotion to Him.

“Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

On the other hand, some erroneously build on the rightness of their moral conducts, they believe that only good works can save them and they do not have to surrender to the lordship of Christ. They believe their lending to their neighbors, their acts of kindness, their gifts to poor friends and well wishing can save them and make them right before God. How untruthful this is! The only foundation you can build goods works on is Christ. The Bible explains that we are saved to do good works and not the other way around. We are to put our faith in Christ, then proceed to do good works that will help enlarge God’s kingdom.

“Ephesians 2:10 (KJV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

In the same vein, some make the mistake of building on their experiences. They were there when Apostle Babalola was performing miracles, they were even present during the revival days of Apostle Obadare. Their eyes have seen things and they walked far and near. But really, experiences don’t save anyone. You can’t build your faith on experiences and things you’ve seen. You must build your faith on Christ – the solid Rock, the sure foundation.

We all need to subject our lives to some reexamination. What foundation are you building on? What foundation am I building on? We need to look inwards and get that inner conviction of the spirit before we can be sure we are building on the sure foundation of Christ. He is the only foundation that can never be moved or destroyed. He is sure, certain, immovable, unchanging, perfect, and unyielding to external forces. When storms come and temptations rear their heads, those who have trusted in Christ to be their foundation will be certain that they will stand these forces and abide forever.

“Isaiah 28:16 (KJV) – Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”

If you have not surrendered your all to Jesus today, you need to do so now. Now is the day of your salvation. You just have to believe on His name and make Him your Lord and Savior. Religion, good works, experiences won’t deliver you from sin nor make you right before God, only Jesus can. Run to him today and put your trust in him.
