“Psalm 34:18 (AMP) The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.”
Brokenness is a state that attracts the presence of God. Without doubt, God despises the sinful and their sins and he is drawn to the righteous and those who practice justice.
“Psalms 33:5 (KJV) He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.”
However, God also pities those who have godly sorrow for their sins and as such, run to God for forgiveness. A contrite heart, a heart that seeks to repent, while feeling apologetic for sin is one that God visits and restores. God never despises a man who is sorry for his sins and ready to turn to him. That is why He sent his son, to bring many to righteousness.
“Psalms 51:17 (KJV) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
More importantly, true brokenness is a tool which God uses to bring the lost sheep back into his arms. Without brokenness, there is no feeling of penitence or sorrow for sin. Brokenness is necessary for us to realise we are not sufficient to save ourselves and that we need God to deliver us and make us right with him.
Furthermore, a character closely related to brokenness is humility. We cannot experience brokenness without being humble. When we feel sorry for our sins and seek God for salvation, we feel an overwhelming insufficiency of our capacity and a humility that tells us to run to God.
For you to experience real and lasting salvation from your sin, you need to be broken. Many times, you see people answering altar call in one spiritual meeting and in the next minute, you see then acting sinfully. You can’t help but wonder what went wrong. The problem is that they were not broken. They still believe they can deliver themselves and they have everything under control. Believe me, they don’t. What they fail to understand is that brokenness is a state of complete surrender to God who is capable of delivering them from sin and evil. An understanding of the true meaning of brokenness will urge someone who just gave his life to Christ to totally depend on God and complete put his trust in Him.
I call unto you today. Are you still struggling to please God? Why not call on him to save you? God is ready to deliver you from sin and its power. You just have to be sorrowful for your sins and approach God in humility. He will save you. He will deliver you. Today is the day of your salvation. Don’t miss this chance to set things right with your creator.
And for those who have accepted Christ as their Lord, who continually trust in Jesus, you must not miss the message in this topic. To continually please God and do his will, you must seek to be broken. You must continually ask God to grant you a heart that pants after him. A heart that desires to please him and do his will. Only brokenness would make you desire that.
I leave you with this quote from Zac Poonen:
“Like the rock that was smitten, we too need to be broken, before the rivers of blessing can flow out through us to others.”
Kindly share with your family and friends. God bless you.
