REWARD FOR DILIGENCE

When God created Adam, he charged him to keep and tend the garden of Eden. God has called everyone to a life of diligence. There’s a general blessing for all mankind and there’s a reward for diligence. You may ask, what’s diligence? It’s simply doing that which you are supposed to do continuously, and with keen focus and high responsible regard.

There are two kinds of diligence, the physical diligence and the spiritual diligence. I will start with the former.

Physical diligence is the term I give to every diligence that is required of men throughout their lifetime on earth. The Bible tells us that penury is as a result of slothfulness and laziness.

Proverbs 6:10-11 (KJV)
[10]Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
[11]So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Laziness is not a virtue of believers, diligence is. The Lord Jesus showed us the way of diligence. He was diligent till he finished his mission on earth. We have an instruction in Proverbs chapter 6 to learn diligence and hard work from ants. Even the ants are diligent, how much more God’s image?

Proverbs 6:6-9
[6]Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
[7]Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
[8]Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
[9]How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

The book of Proverbs is full of wisdom. The twenty-seventh chapter of this book further listed some benefits of diligence so that man would gain wisdom.

Proverbs 27:23-27
[23]Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
[24]For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
[25]The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
[26]The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
[27]And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

Beloved, laziness does not profit. God blesses the work of men, he does not bless their idleness. When you multiply a figure by zero, the result is always zero. Be diligent to go to school. Be diligent to work or learn a trade. Be diligent to try that business. Be diligent to take positive steps that will heighten the chances of your academic, business, financial, career and marital breakthrough.

The other diligence is what I called spiritual diligence. This is the diligence that adds value to your spirit man or your spiritual life. God is a rewarder of those that diligently seeks him.

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
[6]But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Everyone that believes has a gift of eternal life from God. But God has a reward for the diligent believers. They will always be in tune with God. They will enjoy spiritual and divine relationship with God.

Diligence in the things of the spirit includes regular prayer and study of the word, evangelism and soul winning and what the Bible calls pure religion, that is, helping the helpless and the needy which include the widows and the orphans. James 1 vs 27.

Study and prayer require diligence.

1 Thessalonians 5:17
[17]Pray without ceasing.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
[15]Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We are workmen (God’s workmanship). It requires diligence to remain a faithful worker.

Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
[10]For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

We have the instruction for evangelism and soul winning. This requires great zeal and diligence.

Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)
[18]And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[19]Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20]Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Beloved, in this world of ours, only the diligent can make remarkable impact. One thing is sure, if you continue to do that which you are supposed to do, you will soon strike the rock that would bring out water. There’s a reward for diligence and the reward is positive. Don’t be slothful in business, be fervent in the spirit. When you do this, you’ve shown diligence and your reward is sure. Amen.

I hope this blessed you? Share with family and friends. Till next week when we meet for another episode, I say God bless you.
