Many times, believers take actions which are as a result of ignorance. Although, having good mind and reason for doing them, they go on to stress themselves unnecessarily because they thought they were serving their master better. But, Jesus’ yoke is easy and light. He doesn’t give a burden (task) too much to bear or carry. You should therefore always check yourself whether you are doing the right thing or not. This is done by taking a cue from Jesus.
Matthew 11:29-30 (KJV)
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Hear what Jesus said, He wants you to have rest for your soul. Take His yoke upon you and learn of Him, then, you will enjoy rest in Him. When you fail to take his yoke, you will definitely find another yoke to put on. A self imposed yoke and the yoke of the devil bring stress and great burden. But the yoke of Christ is easy because He helps you in your journey.
We can take a cue from the text above that whenever we go through stress in our kingdom journey, it may mean that we are not doing things exactly how we are supposed to do it. We sometimes go through unnecessary stress all in the name of Jesus or His love. Some people go on to stretch themselves beyond the level of sanity to the extent that one would begin to wonder how they read their Bible. But let’s think about it. Jesus ate when he was hungry. He took some rest at appropriate times when he was wearied. He slept when he was tired. He made appropriate decisions and didn’t overstretch himself. He allowed someone to carry his cross on the way to Calvary without thinking the one would share in his glory. He washed his disciples feet and allowed his to be washed. The spiritual significance of this is that He helped them when they needed him and He was assisted when He needed such assistance. He attended parties and feasted with his friends and associates. He did all of these, even though he came to the world for the purpose of salvation of man. Jesus went about preaching the gospel, without condemning the people or the culture of the land. He acknowledged differences in people and dealt with men with wisdom.
As a minister of the gospel, learn ministry from Jesus. See how He gathered and chose His disciples, without stress or extravagant cost. Some ministers today are in great debt all in the name of ministry. I want my church to be like that church, I must attain the stature of that pastor, etc. has been the source of financial breakdown of many ministries. Dear ministers, don’t overstretch yourself. Christ has not called anyone into stress or deep mess. Never.
As a disciple or believer, take a cue from the life of Christ. Live His life. Simple, yet bold. Sufficient, yet dependent. He loved everyone, yet he chastised them.
Many believers fail to apply wisdom all in the name of serving Jesus. You see them do things and wonder if Christianity means complete suspension of the brain. You don’t have to overdo things. Take a cue from Jesus’ life. This will be your yoke – your standard. Any yoke outside Christ brings stress and burden. Couple yourself with Christ. Be joined with him by taking up his yoke upon you, and you will find rest for your soul. His yoke will not make you lazy and lackadaisical. It will simply make you who you are supposed to be in Christ. Amidst the struggle of life, there’s just one thing to do to sail through to a place of blessed peace, relief, ease and refreshment. The one thing is; learn of Christ.
I hope this blessed you. Thanks for reading.
